Whose Security? Lebanon, War, and the Human Cost

The insatiable bloodthirst and macabre character of Zionism persists–seeking new victims in a familiar theatre, though one rarely acknowledged or discussed by Western mainstream media. That theatre–Lebanon. Those victims–Muslim and Christian Lebanese. The stated objective–eliminating Hezbollah. The actual objective–achieving a “Greater Israel”.

The costs? Thus far, almost 4,300 Lebanese dead (almost half of which by official statistics are civilians, not militants) over 12,000 wounded, and 1.3 million displaced? Think of that? It would be as if the average US major city would be completely uprooted. The devastation to infrastructure–catastrophic.

What prompted this offensive? Israeli officials claim Hezbollah fired the first shots of this round of war. Hezbollah claims it was Israel.

What is obvious is this–that Israel has historically been the aggressor, dating back to its 1978 invasion of Lebanon, and its part in fomenting civil war in Lebanon in the 1980’s, which is the context in which Hezbollah was born. Hezbollah originated as an organization and movement aimed at expelling the Israeli occupation, militarily, and filling the political vacuum created by civil war. It was, originally, a wholly organic and truly Lebanese organization. Of course, Iran latched on early, and thus an alliance was formed, based on anti-Zionism, and anti-US and Western Imperialism. Meanwhile, that alliance has been demonized by the Zionist-US Imperial alliance, which has used Hezbollah and the Iranian connection as a justification for whatever actions it deems practical, whereas otherwise it would have zero ability to convince the body politic and its popular opinion of the legitimacy of those actions.

The fact that Hezbollah and Israel are inherently in conflict is actually convenient for Israel, within the context of the Zionist vision and active push for the “Greater Israel” that its founders and contemporary vanguard have advocated. According to Zionism, Israel’s divinely appointed homeland is not its current boundaries, but rather a state whose boundaries stretch from Egypt in the West, includes all of Palestine, Jordan, and Lebanon, and a portion of Syria to the East. Outside of Palestine, Lebanon is the next most practical target for Israel in its pursuit of a Greater Israel, particularly as it frames the narrative to project itself as the innocent victim of Hezbollah-committed terrorism, which is then used to justify any and all military aggression.

And of course, this Lebanese Offensive that Israel is conducting becomes even more consequential when considering that Iran has made no two if’s about it–if Israel persists with its genocidal campaign against Lebanon–then there can be no peace. Meanwhile, in Tel Aviv, Netanyahu and Ben-Givr and the likes reject any semblance of foreign influence in their affairs, neither from the US, much less coming from Tehran. So it doubles down in rhetoric and in deed, deploying its arsenal of destruction, mostly paid for by US taxpayers, and currently against Lebanon, primarily.

How long will we here in the US support, or else stand by, while innocent children and people are murdered, communities and countries destroyed, in the name of “national defense”? How much longer will we approve of the barbaric, the uncivilized, for the sake of saving “civilization”? And how much longer will we allow a foreign, rogue government to manipulate and corrupt our government and our way of life, for its own sick self-interest?
